UPDATE: Ely Township Sunday accident causes injuries

ELY TOWNSHIP — Michigan State Police at the Negaunee Post responded to an accident Sunday that sent three people to the hospital. The accident occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. on U.S.–41 in west Marquette County.

The crash happened just inside Ely Township at County Road CZ. The MSP says Lyle Warner, 43, of Ishpeming, was driving a 2011 Nissan westbound on the highway when he rear-ended a 2005 Ford Mustang driven by Lynn Dymond, 58, also of Ishpeming.

Warner and Dymond were transported to U.P. Health System Bell for non-life threatening injuries. Warner’s 39-year-old female passenger was taken to U.P. Health System Marquette for non-life threatening injuries.

Warner was found at fault and was cited for careless driving.

Sunday night traffic on U.S. 41 was backed up in both directions as driving was reduced to one lane.

The Ishpeming Township Fire Department, Bell EMS, and Ely Township First Responders assisted on scene.
