Firefighters respond to basement fire in Marquette
MARQUETTE — Firefighters were called out to an apparent basement fire in the city of Marquette Monday night.
The Marquette Fire Department received the call just after 6 p.m. regarding a fire at a home at 300 Altamont Street.
Firefighters say the fire was contained to the basement. It was put out in about ten minutes, but firefighters do not know how the fire started. They say the basement area sustained moderate fire and smoke damage.
They say an elderly woman and her dog were in the residence and were able to get out of the home safely.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Marquette City Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Marquette City Police Department, the Marquette General Hospital Ambulance Unit, the Marquette City Public Works Department, and the Marquette Township Fire Department, which was placed on standby.
