Hubbell stabbing suspect arraigned
HOUGHTON — The Hubbell man accused of stabbing a woman to death on Friday morning has been arraigned in Houghton County District Court.
Paul Moilanen, 42, is accused of both second-degree murder and attempted murder. He’s being held in the Houghton County Jail on $2.5 million bond. Moilanen has a preliminary exam scheduled for October 6th.
He’s accused of stabbing Marcy LaVigne, 48, and her 14-year-old daughter at about 3:30 Friday morning. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department says the stabbings took place at LaVigne’s home at 52075 D Avenue in Hubbell.
LaVigne died at the scene. Her autopsy took place today in Marquette. Police say the cause of death was the multiple stab wounds she received, but they’re unable to say at this point which wound was the fatal blow.
LaVigne’s daughter was able to call 911 in spite of her injuries. No official information about the daughter’s condition is available, but an ABC 10 viewer tells us the girl has been discharged from Marquette General and went back to school this morning.
