Iron Mountain Police arrest Walmart shoplifting suspect

A Dickinson County man is in jail on several charges of shoplifting from the Walmart store in Iron Mountain.

Steven Gerow, 24, of Norway is facing two counts of first-degree retail fraud and one second-degree count. He also has ‘habitual offender, third offense’ status attached to his case. Gerow is in the Dickinson County Correctional Center on $10,000 bond. He has a District Court preliminary exam scheduled for July 8th.

The Iron Mountain Police Department says they’ve received several retail fraud complaints from the Walmart store since last October that all involved the same suspect or suspects. They received another call from the store Tuesday night about the same person or people.

Police say that when they arrived, Gerow was running away from Walmart loss prevention employees. Officers arrested him and later recovered several thousand dollars in stolen merchandise from his house in Norway. A second suspect left the area before police arrived, and police are now searching for that suspect.
