Escanaba Public Safety officers want Delta County residents to know about a telephone scam taking place in the area.
Police say the scam involves a male caller identifying himself as an officer with the Escanaba Police Department. The caller asks for a donation to help support wounded officers and families of officers killed in the line of duty. The man will ask for a credit card number.
The call originates in Nevada from the phone number (702) 978-6925.
The Escanaba Public Safety Department says it has never done any solicitation for funding of this type. Officers say the charitable work they do will never involve calling residents and asking for a credit card.
