One dead in fatal Forsyth Township structure fire
Attempts to resuscitate a victim in a KI Sawyer structure fire late Saturday night were unsuccessful.
Forsyth Township Fire officials say it happened around 12:51 a.m. at 609 Valkyrie Street. When crews arrived on scene, smoke could been seen coming from the residence. Firefighters immediately entered the residence to conduct a primary search of the upstairs after being informed that someone may still be inside. The victim was located and removed from the residence before attempts were made to resuscitate. After failing to revive the victim, firefighters performed a secondary search of the entire residence. Fire suppression efforts confined the blaze to the upstairs bedroom. Despite being on scene for about five hours, the residence received minor smoke and water damage.
No fire fighters were injured, but one of residents was killed as a result of the fire. A request was made for the Michigan State Police Fire Investigator, who arrived on scene early this morning to handle the investigation. The investigation of both the fire and fatality is still ongoing.
A total of 30 firefighters responded to the scene and were assisted by the Sands Township Fire Department, the Skandia/West Branch Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, the Forsyth Township Police Department, and the American Red Cross.
