Ishpeming home invasion and standoff suspect arraigned
The Ishpeming man arrested Tuesday after a lengthy police standoff will be back in court on April 29th.
Robert John Rajala, 33, is accused of first-degree home invasion. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment this morning in Marquette. Rajala is being held in the Marquette County Jail on $150,000 bond.
He’s suspected of entering his girlfriend’s home on the 1800 block of Hewitt Street in Ishpeming without her permission Monday morning and attacking her. She got out of the home with minor injuries and called police. The woman told officers her attacker was drunk and was making threats to kill people.
The Ishpeming Police blocked off Hewitt Street to traffic and waited for help from the Michigan State Police Emergency Services Team. Rajala gave himself up peacefully shortly before 2:30 Tuesday morning once the team and its armored vehicle arrived.
He has a preliminary exam scheduled for April 29th at 10:30 a.m. in Ishpeming. First-degree home invasion carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
