Return of winter weather closes Marquette area facilities
A number of facilities in the Marquette area have shut down service today after receiving 4 to 8 inches of fresh snowfall overnight.
All Marquette County and Chatham area Meals on Wheels and Congregate sites are closed due to poor road conditions. Those affected by the closure with questions or concerns are asked to call 228-6522.
The Negaunee Senior Center announced its closure Sunday night after a sewer main break was reported in the area. The AMCAB meal at the center will be cancelled, along with other scheduled activities.
Marquette Area Public Schools have called off tonight’s Family Life Advisory Council meeting and the Gemini Concert scheduled for Kaufman Auditorium. MAPS Board of Education meeting at Cherry Creek Elementary School has also been postponed. The next scheduled meeting is slated for April 28th.
MAPS officials also announced the last day of school for the district today. It will now be June 13, 2014. MAPS will file a waiver for today’s inclement weather day. Typically, the response time to hear on this is several weeks. There is no guarantee the state will forgive today’s hours so it is best to plan for the worst case scenario.
