Police investigating Drummond Island house explosion and death
Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post are investigating a house explosion on Drummond Island at which a woman’s body was found.
The explosion took place shortly before 9:00 this morning at 34122 South Sturgeon Bay Road on the island. Several people called police to report the blast, and residents felt it in several areas of the island. Smoke was also visible in the area near the home shortly after the explosion. State troopers and the Drummond Island Fire Department found that the explosion destroyed the home, which was on fire when they arrived.
After putting out the blaze, crews found the body of a woman in the debris. Troopers are investigating her death, and a Michigan State Police fire marshal is looking into the cause of the explosion and fire.
