Suicidal man prompts lockdown at Gogebic County school
A Gogebic County elementary school was placed on lockdown Thursday due to a suicidal person in the area.
The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suicidal man just after 1 p.m. at a residence in Bessemer. Police were unable to make contact with the 38-year-old man and cordoned off the immediate area.
Washington Elementary School was placed on lockdown for about an hour and a half.
Police said the man eventually exited his residence and was taken into protective custody without incident. He was transported to Aspirus Grandview Hospital for evaluation.
Troopers from the Wakefield Post of the Michigan State Police, the Gogebic/Iron SWAT Team, Beacon Ambulance, and the Ojibway Correctional Facility E.R.T. assisted at the scene.
