Park goers will have to wait a little longer
CHAMPION — Campgrounds at a state park in Marquette County will open a little later than usual this year.
Van Riper State Park’s campgrounds in Champion will open this coming Monday, May 4th. The Department of Natural Resources says the delayed opening is due to excessive snow. Delaying the opening of the campgrounds allows more time for snow to melt and the sites to dry out. The DNR adds that while the modern campground opening date is being delayed, day–use areas *are* open for recreation.
Chippewa County’s Brimley State Park saw its campgrounds open late as well — those opened Friday.
