Annual baby shower helps new mothers in need
New and expecting mothers in Marquette County who need a little help will have an opportunity soon thanks to the Alger-Marquette County Action Board.
AMCAB is holding its 19th Annual Community Baby Shower Friday, May 2.
The baby shower is offered free of charge and allows mothers to not only receive useful baby gifts, but also to learn about services available in the area.
“We have a whole bunch of donations from the community, and we have diapers and high chairs and strollers, and we have educational booths from all the community organizations that offer services to parents of new children and for babies,” AMCAB Early Headstart Manager Barbie Dupras said.
The baby shower has been a successful event for nearly two decades. Officials say residents and businesses in the area are responsible for much of the continued progress.
“This entire baby shower is based on donations from the community,” Dupras said. “That’s why there’s no cost to the participants, so it’s important that the community is involved and they do an amazing job. This is an amazing community to live in.”
The event runs from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Negaunee Township Hall. No registration is required.
