Lady Wildcats prepare for big weekend
The Northern Michigan University volleyball team loves playing at home inside the comfy confines of Vandament Arena. NMU is 9-1 at home this season.
Through 11 GLIAC conference contests, the Wildcats are 10-1. NMU is currently in a three-way tie with Grand Valley State and Ferris State at the top of the GLIAC North standings.
Both the Lakers and the Bulldogs will travel to Marquette later this week to take on the Wildcats. NMU will have a chance to take control of first place in the north division with a good showing at home against two very solid teams.
“Just to be able to play in front our fans in a place that’s really comfortable for our players to play is tremendous for them,” said Wildcats volleyball coach Dominic Yoder about his team. “It’s just going to be a benefit for us.”
“Grand Valley started out the year just left side dominant, but now they have their right side scoring and their middle scoring,” said Yoder about the Lakers. “Ferris State is another one of those teams that is very good defensively. They have very good left side hitters, which good teams do.”
“We’re really excited for some great competition and senior night, parents night, so it’s all coming together,” said NMU senior defensive specialist Suzanne Solin. “This is one opportunity that we won’t get back, so we want to take it.”
“Playing here for the past five years has been awesome,” said NMU senior middle hitter Sarah Hamilton. “I definitely think this team that we have now is the best team that I’ve been on. I’m really excited to play against these two big teams this weekend with this team.”
The ‘Cats will take on Grand Valley Friday at 7 p.m., Followed by their contest against Ferris State, Saturday at 4 p.m.
Prior to their contest against the Bulldogs, the Wildcats will recognize their five seniors- Kellisha Harley, Sarah Hamilton, Lina Lopes, Kalli Herron, and Suzanne Solin.
