Disc da UP, Marquette Guts, and the Upper Peninsula Disc Golf Association proudly announce the 1st Frisbee Sanctuary Week, to be held the week of July 29th-Aug. 4th, 2013. The week will be a series of free disc events hosted by the world’s only Frisbee Sanctuary, Marquette, MI.

“We are very excited to be hosting this new and great event.  For the past 35 years our city has been involved in hosting and helping Frisbee and Discs sports grow locally, nationally and internationally.”,  says Disc da UP spokesman, Buck Buchanan. “In the 1970’s Wham-0 Toy Manufacturer designated Marquette as a “Frisbee Sanctuary” and just recently the City Commission officially adopted that title. We are the only disc sanctuary in the world. And to recognize the fans for their support of Frisbee and disc sports, it’s FAN APPRECIATION WEEK. Stop by one of our free disc events during the week and look for our Free Giveaways.”

Frisbee Sanctuary will be begin it’s week with the Grand Opening of Marquette’s new disc golf course, Powder Mill Disc Golf Course. The ceremonies start at 5:00 on July 29 and starts at Hole 1 next to the BMX Track. There will be FREE Giveaways.

On Wednesday, July 31, from 6-8pm there will be a Free Girl/Women’s Disc Golf Clinic.  Bring your own golf discs or we will provide them for you. Come out and learn how to play disc golf and walk the new course. Contact our Facebook page, Disc da UP for more information.

Then on Saturday and Sunday, August 3 & 4, Frisbee Sanctuary Week will culminate with the most exciting tournament on the planet, the US National Guts Frisbee Championships, sponsored by Togo’s, the Wooden Nickel, and Stucko’s Pub and Grill. The US Nationals will be played at legendary Hurley Field in Marquette.

Come and watch the Original Extreme Sport, Guts Frisbee, as the top players from around the US hurl and catch the flying disc at over speeds of 80 mph. The US Nationals runs from 9:00am-dusk both days, with the finals schedule for 5:00pm on Sunday. For more information, check our Facebook page, US National Guts Frisbee.
