Bike exhibit at Mqt. History Center
The Upper Peninsula is a big draw for bicyclists, especially during the summer months, and this isn’t just a new trend.
The Marquette Regional History Center has a current special exhibit about bicycles and about the love affair many of us have with the two-wheeled, non-motorized machines.
It’s called “Bikes: Gearing Up for Adventure”.
“It’s really just a celebration for all ages, whether you remember riding a banana-seat bike back in the ’70s and ’60s or you had a chrome Schwinn from a little earlier,” History Center curator Jo DeYoung said. “Those bikes are still loved and appreciated.”
The 17 bikes on display range from modern BMX and mountain bikes, to a 19th-century model, to an Italian bicycle that folds in half, and many more.
“You can learn more about a woman who was a national champion in BMX racing, and we have a wonderful collection here from several collectors in the Marquette area,” DeYoung said.
“Bikes: Gearing Up for Adventure” is on display at the History Center through the end of August.
