MTU Skiers compete in nationals

SOLIDER HOLLOW, Utah – Success continued for the Michigan Tech Nordic ski team in various classic races at the US National Championships Sunday (Jan. 6).
Sarah Daniels finished 36th (1:13.59) in the 20-kilometer classic race. Rachel Mason turned in a strong performance to finish 40th (1:14.57).
Luke Gesior was the top-finisher for the Huskies in the men’s 30-kilometer classic race crossing the line 49th (1:33.26). He was followed by Jay Woodbeck in 54th (1:34.12) and Matt Dugan in 71st (1:39.15).
Kyle Hanson finished 33rd in the men’s Olympic junior race. He covered the 10-kilometer course in 30:01.
“Luke and Sarah both had good races, but it was great to see our number two skiers Jay and Rachel step-up. They each had really good performances,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller.
The team will race one final time at the US National Championships in the freestyle sprints on Tuesday (Jan. 8).
