Northern Michigan University’s faculty requested a state mediator for ongoing contract negotiations with the administration and the NMU Board of Trustees.

After the Board of Trustees refused to extend the NMU–AAUP contract, the union decided it was time to bring in a state mediator.

They have negotiated over base salary increases and other forms of compensation.

NMU–AAUP Chief Negotiator Lesley Putman said that NMU’s faculty agreed to PAYCUTS and other funding to help the university get through the COVID crisis.

He added that restoration of pre–pandemic levels should BE reinstated.

Mediation between the faculty union and administration will begin on Monday, July 19
