Walk-up Secretary of State services expected to return

Walk–up services could soon be available at Michigan Secretary of State offices.

Legislation to shorten wait–time at SOS branch offices received bipartisan support last week.

The bills would allow immediate appointments for walk–ins where available.

Due to a backlog in the appointment only system, motorists have often waited weeks for service.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said her office has a strong plan in place to provide an abundance of in–person office availability in coming months.

The SOS is working through a backlog created by the pandemic Benson said.

She said her office wants to provide “the convenient, efficient and equitable service that Michiganders have sought and deserved for decades.”

Legislation to waive late fees and extend expirations was also approved.
