Unemployment benefits extended in Michigan

Unemployment benefits have been extended 20 weeks for those who are out of work because of COVID-19.

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency announcement includes workers who have exhausted their regular benefits.

An official from the state agency says the much-needed safety net will help those who are still dealing with the long-term effects of unemployment due to COVID-19.

From March 15th to October 1st, the state department paid out $23.9 billion in benefits.
