HOUGHTON — Isle Royale National Park has announced they will be increasing recreational access to their park.

Starting Friday, June 26th, the public will have access to docks, campgrounds, and trails, with the exception of North Desor Campground and parts of the Minong Trail.

“If they’ve been to Isle Royale before, it’s not going to be the same thing,” said Liz Valencia, Public Information Officer for Isle Royale National Park. “There will be limited visitor center hours, limited facilities open for example, the Rock Cover Lodge won’t be open. The fairy services, the boat transportation fairy services, are not running. So, just for the public to be aware that even though we’re open, it won’t be the same. There will be many changes for them to deal with.”

On Saturday, June 27th, Isle Royale Seaplanes will also resume operations, along with gasoline and diesel fuel being available for purchase at Rock Harbor and Windigo on July 1st.
