ISHPEMING — One of the area’s more popular car shows has been cancelled due to the COVID–19 pandemic.

Buzz the Gut, which was slated to celebrate its 19th year, shows classic cars and parades them through Negaunee and Ishpeming.

Since the event relies on business sponsors, and businesses only recently started reopening, organizers decided to cancel the event altogether.

“We’re a nonprofit organization,” said Terry Surrell, Vice President of Buzz the Gut. “We depend on our sponsors for money, and a lot of them have not been open for a couple months, and you can’t go knocking on their door and ask them for money. We decided rather than have a partial event, we’d rather wait until next year and be able to have a good event again.”

The event has always been free for both participants and spectators, and event organizers wanted to keep it that way.

Last year, nearly 300 cars alone participated in the event, which drew even more spectators.

Buzz the Gut is looking forward to continuing its car show in 2021.
