Experience the Keweenaw goes virtual due to pandemic

CALUMET — Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Experience the Keweenaw event is going virtual.\

The Memorial Day Weekend Event has drawn many community members and visitors for the past three years, but due to COVID-19, Experience the Keweenaw’s format has been changed.

The main objective of the event is to promote organizations and services of the community, but will do so online this year.

“People were obviously disappointed,” said Brad Barnett, Executive Director at the Keweenaw Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. “This is one of the Keweenaw’s most anticipated events because it’s one that announces that winter time is officially over and that spring is here. So, people were disappointed that it had to be canceled but they appreciate the fact while they’re home and sheltered and unable to travel right now, it gives them a taste of Keweenaw and hopefully some better things to look forward to once travel is allowed again.”
