Local restaurants finding ways to operate

ISHPEMING — The COVID-19 outbreak has closed many restaurants in the Upper Peninsula, but there are still some that continue with day–to–day operations.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order has banned people from eating inside restaurants; but establishments such as Ralph’s Italian Deli in Ishpeming, continue to operate by offering curbside pickup or carryout.

“We’re kind of having a tough time keeping employees on,” said Bruno Gervasi, Half Owner of Ralph’s Italian Deli. “We’re working every hour that we’re open. A lot of people are afraid to be out in public so we’re working with five or six employees when we’re use to having 16. I’d say they’re (community) very supportive. People are wishing us luck and tipping everybody. They appreciate us being open and we appreciate them coming in.”

Ralph’s will continue with their temporary hours of 10 A.M.–7 P.M, seven days a week, until further notice.
