City of Marquette closes parks to the public

MARQUETTE — The City of Marquette has decided to close all of their parks to the public; effective immediately.

The decision was made in order to enforce social distancing guidelines, and to prevent large groups from gathering in one area.

Parks including all city parks, playgrounds, park parking lots, the skate plaza and Tourist Park are closed until further notice.

“Over the last few days with the warmer weather, people were beginning to use our City parks a lot more,” said Mike Angeli, City Manager of Marquette. “Our intent is to restrict the use of those parks as much as we can and at the same time, allowing the bike paths to stay open. Hopefully, with the clear message that were sending, that we can leave the bike paths open and not have to worry about too many people gathering in that area as well.”
