Getz’s to donate to Women’s Center Harbor House for Spread Goodness Day

MARQUETTE — March 13th is Spread Goodness Day. A nonprofit initiative founded by Anna Dravland in 2018, Spread Goodness Day is all about individuals, organizations, and businesses spreading a little goodness throughout the community.

Downtown Marquette department store Getz’s is getting in on the action by supporting the Women’s Center Harbor House.

“We are so excited to partner with the Women’s Center this year for Getz’s Spread Goodness event,” said General Manager Keith Dickson. “And how we’re going to help is any sale that we have, 5% of that purchase is going to be donated directly to the Women’s Center. So you come in, you purchase something, and you’re helping the Women’s Center.”

Besides making a purchase on Friday, another way to help out is by donating items needed by the Harbor House, such as personal care items and cleaning supplies. Sexual Assault Program Coordinator Michelle Fortunato says these everyday items can be a tremendous help to individuals and families in need.

“A lot of times our survivors will have fled with just the clothes on their back,” said Fortunato. “So think hygiene products or hair products. And every once in a while, it’s really nice for our survivors to do a pamper day. You know makeup and nail polish, things that just help bring back your self-worth and your self-esteem.”

Dickson says that organizations like the Women’s Center are essential to communities like Marquette. Getz’s is extremely connected to the local community, and Spread Goodness Day is the perfect opportunity for the store to give something back.

“For us to be able to be involved, I mean, that’s who we are,” said Dickson. “We wouldn’t be here without our customers and we wouldn’t be here without great partners like the Women’s Center and working with Spread Goodness and Anna. We’re entrenched in this community, and this is one of the most exciting things that we’ve done just because of the cause. And if we can help in any little way, that’s amazing. I can’t thank the community enough for coming down to Getz’s. Get yourself something nice, and know that you’re helping this great organization.”

The Women’s Center always appreciates the support of the community. Fortunato says that because the Harbor House helps survivors in the Marquette area, supporters’ contributions are going right back into their community.

“It really helps, partnering with local stores and retail outlets and knowing that all the love comes from the community,” said Fortunato. “Everything that they put forth comes back into your community, so you’re not only getting some great purchases for yourself, but you’re also giving back and supporting those in need locally.”
