MARQUETTE — Marquette area police and firefighters hit the ice Wednesday night for a good cause.

The 37th–annual Pigs-N-Heat hockey game combined generosity and friendly competition, that benefits people that have fallen on hard times.

The popularity of the event is a clear reflection of the community, and the kindness its members have for one another.

“It’s a real giving community,” said Dan Pruner, Engineer at Marquette City Fire Department. “We go out looking to sell tickets, just sell one you sell ten or twenty. You go to a business  for a prize or an ad, you hardly ever get a no. We go year after year, and they’re always ready to give. It’s just a great community cause, brings everyone together.”

Police departments and fire stations raised money by selling tickets to the game, as well as raffles and other various fundraising techniques.

Funds raised through the event go to the Fire Relief Fund, which assists families who have been affected by a house fire, by providing them hotel stay for three nights.

The Pigs one this year’s match 7–4, giving them bragging rights until next year’s competition.
