2nd-annual Winter Roots Folk Festival set for Saturday
MARQUETTE — Music festivals in winter aren’t very common, however an interactive festival is taking place on Saturday in Marquette.
The Winter Roots Folk Festival is here for its second year, and like one of its coordinators explains, the unique festival helps attendees beat the winter blues.
“This festival started as a way to get people out of the cold to celebrate all of the local talent we have,” said Tristan Luoma, the Arts & Senior Services Coordinator for the City of Marquette. “There’s so many great musicians and performers and historians who have studied traditional music, practice and put on performances over the years. We kind of wanted to bring all of these people together and give the community a chance to see all of the work that they do.”
The festival will take place on Saturday, and is divided into four venues; the Peter White Public Library, the Hiawatha Music Co–op, NMU’s Forest Roberts Theatre, and the Ore Dock Brewing Company.
Along with traditional folk music performers, the festival will also include both music and dance workshops.
Winter Roots Festival buttons, which are $10 each, grant access to all venues and events.
