Michigan Department of Natural Resources to launch new license sales system

MARQUETTE COUNTY — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will be launching a new license sales system in the coming weeks.

The DNR’s current license sales system will no longer be in operation as of February 15. It will be replaced with a new, more up-to-date system on February 18. Licenses will not be available for sale between those dates, so anyone interested in purchasing a license for that weekend is encouraged to do so before the February 15.

However, the annual Free Fishing Weekend will be held during those days. No license is required, so there will still be an option for those who haven’t purchased their license.

“There’ll be a couple days where you’re not going to be able to buy a license, but that coincides with Free Fishing Weekend,” said DNR General Office Assistant Chris Koren. “Free Fishing Weekend has been extended for one day to coincide with the new system, so it shouldn’t be a problem for most people. If you do anticipate going hunting during that period, make sure you buy your license beforehand. And then, starting on February 18th at noon, you’ll be able to buy your licenses again.”

For anyone who needs a snowmobile sticker from February 15-18, a list of places to obtain a preprinted trail permit can be found here.
