Marquette Area Theatre Awards to honor local performers and artists

MARQUETTE — On Thursday, February 6, local theatre groups will celebrate their 2019 productions and to honor the artists who make them possible.

The Marquette Area Theatre Awards will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Masonic Center downtown. Awards will be distributed during that time, and the four local theatre groups represented will put on 10 different performances. Afterward, there will be a Final Act after party for those 21 and older where attendees can meet with producers, directors, stage crew, and cast members.

Award show producer Sarah Balding says that supporting local theatre is beneficial for the entire community, but particularly young people.

“Theatre, in my opinion, is really good for not only the community as a whole to be involved in the arts, but it also is great for our youth to be brought up in a very artistic community,” said Balding. “And fortunately the Marquette area is a very artistic community. So celebrating it and spreading the word is the best way to get more people involved.”

Tickets are still available for the Marquette Area Theatre Awards, and online voting remains open. You can find more information here.
