Trailer fire kills woman in Sands Township

MARQUETTE COUNTY — On Saturday, October 26, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire in the 553 Mobile Estates Trailer Park.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke and fire were seen coming from the trailer. Deputies were unable to locate the home owner. Attempts were made to look inside the trailer, but entry was not possible.

The Sands Township Fire Department arrived on scene and began to extinguish the blaze. The trailer was heavily engulfed in the fire, so any further rescue could not be attempted. A body was located in the ruins after the fire was extinguished.

The Marquette County Medical Examiner was able to make a positive identification of the body found inside the trailer. The deceased was identified as 67-year-old Judith Germain, the owner and resident of that trailer.

No foul play is suspected. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall.
