Local cooperative brewery called “Drifa Brewing” is open to the public

MARQUETTE — Drifa brewing has officially opened its doors and is ready to show off what they have to offer.

“A long awaited grand opening,” said Heather Ludwig, General Manager of Drifa Brewing. “We are open at 3 pm and we will be open until 10 pm. We have the pretzel guy’s food truck coming to provide some tasty snacks. Pretzels pair well with beer so we will have that going on. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of the new members come through and we are also open to the general public. I think that is the most exciting thing is getting the entire community involved. We have an opportunity to explain the cooperative model to people who might be interested in joining.”

Drifa Brewing is Michigan’s first cooperatively own brewery where anyone can join the Co-op through a $99 onetime fee.

“With that for $99 anybody can sign up to be a member here,” said Ludwig. “They will have the ability to vote on exciting decisions that the brewery will come up with. They will also get fifty-cents off their pints for the rest of their lives. So that is probably the most exciting benefit of being a member.”
