Ishpeming Planning Commission holds public forum, recommends opting out of recreational marijuana

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Planning Commission has made a recommendation regarding recreational marijuana in the city, following a public forum that was held earlier tonight.

After hearing input from the public in attendance, the planning commission has decided to make a formal recommendation to remain opted out of the recreational marijuana initiative that was passed in Michigan this past November.

Many of the concerns raised at the forum regarded how few rules and regulations currently exist in the state of Michigan for recreational marijuana.

Also discussed at the forum was the feasibility of a recreational marijuana retail dispensary, and the possible financial revenue from a potential site.

The recommendation states that if the city council does decide to opt in, then the planning commission would need 6 months to set aside and prepare potential sites for marijuana.
