Local art exhibit utilizes recycled cigar boxes

MARQUETTE —  An art exhibit that uses interesting materials has just opened in Marquette.

Located in the Peter White Public Library, “Small Worlds in Boxes” utilizes recycled materials, and creates a new theme for each piece.

“It’s a recycle project,” said Christine Saari, the artist that created the exhibit. “Somebody gave me a cigar box about four years ago, and it was very pretty. It had a beautiful etching, and I had all of these materials  that I wanted to use up and recycle in my studio, and so that was the first box. I just put things into the box, and I created little worlds.”

Originally having roughly 135 cigar box pieces, this exhibit took about four years to complete.

The exhibit is located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library, and will be on display until September 23rd.
