One injured in single vehicle crash into power pole

ELY TOWNSHIP — On July 28, 2019 at approximately 8:09 AM, the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post responded to a single vehicle traffic crash on County Road 581 near Southwood Lane in Ely Township.

The investigation determined that a blue 2010 Subaru Forester, driven by a 40-year-old Ishpeming man, was traveling northbound on County Road 581 when it lost control and struck a power pole, breaking it in half.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to UP Health Systems Marquette for treatment. The passenger was uninjured in the crash.

Seatbelts were being worn at the time of the crash and drugs are believed to be a contributing factor.  The crash is still under investigation.
