Marquette tire shop employee arrested for Larceny and receiving stolen property

MARQUETTE — A man who worked at a Marquette tire shop is facing charges for stealing tires and rims and selling them to another man.

According to the Marquette Police Department, 40-year-old Steven Joseph Briggs of Ishpeming was an employee at Pomp’s Tire Shop of Marquette. Investigators say Briggs stole tires and rims from the business and sold them to 41-year-old Joseph Michael Ellis of Negaunee. Ellis stored the items and sold them to a third party.

Briggs and Ellis were arrested Friday.

Briggs is charged with larceny in a building and receiving or concealing stolen property worth between $20,000-$50,000. While, Ellis is charged with receiving or concealing stolen property worth between $20,000-$50,000.

Police say Briggs posted the required bond of 10 percent of $20,000 on both charges. Ellis posted the required bond of 10 percent of $10,000. Both are set for arraignment in Marquette County District Court on August 5 at noon.
