MARQUETTE — The landscape near the ore dock at Mattson Lower Harbor is set to change in the near future.

In a meeting held on July 8th, the Marquette City Commission unanimously passed the $5.6 million Founders Landing pier project, in hopes to stimulate the area.

“This has all been worked through and decided,” said City Manager Mike Angeli. “It’s a fantastic project. I think when it’s done, this will be something the community will be very proud of. It’ll be a very nice asset to the harbor.”

Tonight’s meeting also approved a change order, to allow $200k to be allocated for design and project oversight.

Engineering for the project is to be done by GEI Consultants, while the construction will be done by Kokosing Industrial and Durocher Marine Division.

Although it’s still too early for estimates, the city council is hopeful that the project will begin in September of this year sometime.
