Ishpeming inching closer to finding new city manager

ISHPEMING — The search for a new city manager in Ishpeming continues.

In a special meeting held earlier today, the Ishpeming city council interviewed a pair of candidates, in hopes to find someone to fit their needs.

“I look for somebody who has experience in municipal government, with a background in sewer, water, and streets,” said Karl Lehmann, mayor of Ishpeming. “With a background in labor negotiations, human resources. It’s a real hodge-podge of requirements, but if you can find the ideal person, to me, that’s what they’d have.”

The two candidates interviewed today were calling in from Maine and Chicago.

With the second and final round of interviews concluded, the city council will vote and hire in the new city manager in their regular meeting scheduled for next Wednesday.
