Man taken to high-level trauma center after motorcycle accident

KEWEENAW COUNTY — The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Saturday June 29 at around 3:35 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a single motorcycle personal injury crash.

A motorcycle was being driven by a 60-year-old Calumet man. He was traveling North of the Gay Lake Linden Road, near Coal Dock Road, when he lost control of the 2002 Harley Davidson. The motorcycle left the roadway, and the driver was ejected from the bike and thrown approximately 50 feet. The man was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Merc EMS.

The motorist was later airlifted to a higher level trauma center for severe injuries sustained from the crash. Speed or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Mercy EMS.
