Cannabis informational meeting held in L’Anse

L’ANSE — Over the past 10 years, a lot has changed in the state of Michigan regarding marijuana laws.

People in L’Anse got the chance to get some education on cannabis in a special meeting held last night.

The meeting covered everything from the history of marijuana use, to its practical use as a medicinal plant, along with recreational use.

“The end goal to having these meetings is to decrease harm and improve outcomes,” said Cathleen Graham, a medical professional heading the meetings. “Research shows that when a state goes recreational, there’s a 30% increase in emergency department visits. So we, as medical professionals, are not prepared to handle that, so if we can educate people on how to use it [marijuana] properly, then we can decrease harm and decrease the amount of emergency room visits.”
