MARQUETTE — Now that we are officially in spring, there are more things for the community and those visiting Marquette to do.

The Marquette Maritime Museum has officially opened for the 2019 season and they will remain open until mid–October. There is no exact closing date because it’s all dependent on weather.

There will also be lighthouse tours three times throughout the day, if the weather permits.

“So this is going to be an interesting season for us because there is construction going on in Lighthouse Point Park, but it’s really a great way to learn about why Marquette became a town. We started out as a shipping port; a lot of people don’t know the history of Marquette or what the big Ore Dock is down in the lower harbor. This is the place to come to find out the answers to those questions” said Marquette Maritime Museum Director, Hilary Billman.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

They are also looking for volunteers for both the lighthouse and museum tours.
