$70,000 awarded to UP nonprofits from Flagstar Crafts Community program

MARQUETTE — Back in April, Flagstar Bank launched their “Flagstar Crafts Community” initiative to help out nonprofits around the community with grants, and it all came to fruition this morning. Representatives from Flagstar branches around the area, as well as their corporate offices, met with the nonprofit recipients during a reception in downtown Marquette.

Team members from different branches throughout the Upper Peninsula were the ones that nominated nonprofits, and the recipients were determined by a vote from customers and people in the community who were eager to help out nonprofits in the area.

“It was really awesome to see the nonprofits come through,” said Sean Geary, Flagstar Market Manager for the greater Marquette market. “We saw them posting on social media, kind of rallying their supporters around them. And then just our everyday customers who come into the branch were really excited to vote about nonprofits and charities they were familiar with.”

Even though this is the first year that Flagstar Bank is in the area and has given out these grants, they’re especially happy about participating and helping out in the community.

“You know, it’s a really special thing,” said Geary. “And when Flagstar came to town they told us they were going to start with this event and we think it’s a great way to reintroduce ourselves to the communities. To show that the success of us as a bank depends on the success of the people in the community, so to be able to fund and help financially some of these nonprofits that we know just do great work in our community, it’s something that we’re all very proud of.”

There were 14 total grants of $5,000 given out to nonprofits around the Upper Peninsula for a total of $70,000, and an additional 4 that were given out in Northern Wisconsin.
