IRON MOUNTAIN — This afternoon, a ribbon cutting was held for the Dickinson Primary Care Center inside Dickinson County Health Systems.

The Primary Care Center is the Hospital’s newest initiative that combines Pediatric and Family Practice care in one place.

The pediatric center opened on April 1st and so far the response has been great. Senator Ed McBroom also made an appearance to help cut the ribbon.

“Well I think to the community it means a lot now that we’ve re–established ourselves. I think one of the things we’re trying to focus on a lot here now is the expansion of our primary care services. Those are the services that really feed all the specialties that we have here and so we need to have that” said Dennis Smith, DCHS Chief Restructuring Officer. “I think we had lost a little bit of that over the last several years for a variety of reasons so we’re putting a lot more emphasis on that.”

The center has 14 treatment rooms with a full scope lab, diagnostics and additional support services down the hall.

In the next few months, the Primary Care plans on having extended hours to help make the Health System more patient focused.
