Houghton-based yacht club welcoming new members
HOUGHTON — Are you interested in boating, but don’t have a boat yourself? Well, you’re in luck. The Onigaming Yacht Club is currently looking for members.
Everyone is welcome to join, whether you have plenty of sailing experience, or none at all.
“The thing is, we try and let people know that you don’t have to be a boat owner,” says Scott Veenstra, commodore of the club. “We have lots of room for crewing people, and people that are just interested in being out on the water. We also have a power boat float till, and so we’re inviting power boaters to join up with us.”
The Houghton–based yacht club currently has about 60 members, with roughly 35 of them active.
With lots of events during the summer, new members have plenty of opportunities to learn the ins and outs of sailing.

The yacht club has been continuously active in the UP since 1894.
