Ice storms force warming shelters to open in Marquette County

MARQUETTE COUNTY–  Due to extreme weather resulting in power outages, the Marquette County Emergency Management Office and the American Red Cross have set up two warming shelters throughout the county.

The warming centers are located in the Chocolay Township Fire Hall, which the Red Cross will maintain through the night, and Ishpeming Township Hall, which the fire volunteers will keep open until 9:00 pm Eastern tonight.

The Marquette County Emergency Management urges everyone to be patient while UPPCO and BLP crews are hastily working to get power restored to customers.

For assistance in emergencies, call 911.
