UPAWS receives large grant from Petco Foundation

ISHPEMING — The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter received a big grant and it’s all because of a boy and his bunny.

Every year Petco Foundation does a holiday wishes campaign where they encourage adopters to submit stories on how much their pets have impacted their lives.

UPAWS had received three stories from previous adopters and one of the stories ended up being chosen.

“Oreo the fluffy bunny was chosen and it had won $25,000 grant,” said UPAWS Capital Campaign Manager, Kori Tossava. “Out of the thousands of stories that are submitted to Petco Foundation, only 51 were chosen. So to have been able to receive this award just in general was amazing. Now we are also in the running for a people’s choice award.”

The people’s choice award allows UPAWS to have the chance to get another grant to help support the shelter.

People can help by voting for Will and Oreos story online.
