Marquette DDA reports increased usage of electric charging ports

MARQUETTE — Recently, downtown Marquette has seen quite a few changes – from new parking meters, to even electric car charging ports.

Back in January, the Marquette Downtown Development Authority installed a dual, 240 volt car charging station on the lower level of the Bluff Street parking structure. In that time, the DDA says they’ve seen more usage indicated with the chargers. While electric cars are still working into mainstream buyers’ minds, the DDA says it’s important to stay ahead, and think to the future.

“We have seen an increase in the number of charging sessions – especially over the summer, which indicates that tourists or people that are visiting the area are using the stations,” said Assistant Director of the Marquette DDA, Rebecca Salmon. “We’ve also seen an increase in the number of unique users, who are people that are using it maybe once or twice when they’re here for a short period of time, as opposed to someone who’s using it on a daily basis.”
