UPDATE: Attempted abduction of minor nothing more than mistaken identity

UPDATE September 17th at 3:20pm:
The driver of the car has been located and spoken to. The driver saw the youth and thinking it was his nephew told him to get in the car. When the youth turned around the driver realized it was not his nephew. The driver then drove to his own house a couple streets away. No crime – no charges in this case.

SAULT STE. MARIE — The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department is investigating an attempted abduction of a 13 year old male around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 15th.
The incident occurred on Johnston St. near Spruce St. The suspect drove up to the victim and told him to “get in or else.” The victim ran to a nearby house and the suspect drove away.
The Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect. According to the victim and a witness, the vehicle is described as a newer white (or light colored) Jeep Cherokee type model. The vehicle had LED headlights, some type of fixture on the roof (possibly a light bar or rack), and black wheel rims. The suspect is described as an older heavy set white male with facial hair and wearing glasses.
A video of the vehicle from a nearby residence was secured. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department is asking that if anyone has any information that might help locate the vehicle and/or suspect that they call the Department at 906-632-5744.
