MARQUETTE — The United Way of Marquette County began their annual fundraising campaign with a kick-off celebration where all of the money donated stays in Marquette County.

The event was also special because they are celebrating 75 years of caring for the people of the community.

“It’s a fantastic organization, it benefits 30 partner organizations all around the county. That’s one thing to remember, a lot of people think it’s a Marquette city based thing; they help people in every walk of life” said co-chair, Glenn Sarka.

“One of the most important things about the United Way campaign is that it allows all of these 3- partner agencies to plan for this yearly donation” said co-chair, Shawn Beckman. “They’re able to apply for the funds, get one lump sum of money every year and they don’t have to employ a fundraiser and they don’t have to take in the money in little bits throughout the year.”

Both Beckman and Sarka are honored to be serving as campaign co-chairs.

They just began their workplace and corporate campaign pledge.

This year, their goal for the campaign is to raise four hundred thousand dollars.
