U.P. Fall Beer Festival host local breweries

MARQUETTE — It’s time to celebrate Michigan breweries and Michigan beer this Saturday at the 10th annual U.P. Beer Festival.

With 100 different Michigan breweries and more than 600 different beers there’s going to be something for everyone.

Craft beer has been growing in popularity for many years and Michigan is one state that certainly has not fought off the craze.

“Promoting Michigan breweries and Michigan beer that’s what it’s all about for us. We’re a nonprofit organization and our mission is to promote and protect the craft beer industry here in the state. Our festival is certainly our biggest promotion throughout the year and that’s the most exciting thing for me and the Michigan Brewers Guild. It’s to be promoting our members and their beer and exposing hopefully new people to beer,” said Scott Graham, Director of the Michigan Brewers Guild.

Local breweries will be present at the festival and few will be featuring special brews, like Jasper Ridge in Ishpeming who’s been involved in the festivities since the beginning.

“The three styles of beer we will have are the IPA which is a Midwestern style with the citrus pine and grapefruit. A Duncan Weizen which is a light German style wheat beer and our blueberry wheat which is a fan favorite that has been here since we opened 20 years ago,” said Ryan Lamere, General Manager.

There will be local entertainment as well as local food vendors.

Tickets are still available but in limited quantities at black rocks, ore dock, the vierling and the food co op. Tickets are also available online.
