Family of 4 becomes lost on Hogsback Mountain

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office along with Search and Rescue volunteers were dispatched to the area of Hogsback Mountain in Marquette Township for lost hikers Monday evening around 5:00pm.

A family of 4 from South Bend, Indiana, was hiking on the Blue Trail when they became lost. 52-year-old Leo McNellis, his 42-year-old wife Analyn Abella, and their two children, aged 11 and 9, called 911 asking for help getting back to the parking lot at Wetmore Pond.

Search and rescue located them approximately ½ mile west of the parking lot using GPS coordinates from the call. None of the hikers suffered any injuries, and were escorted back to their vehicle.
